MAGPUL TURKEY HUNT LOADOUT

This spring turkey season, we filled up our DAKA^® LR53 Hard Case with purpose-built gear to help us go after a Texas tom. When you’re chasing longbeards, only equipment that works makes it into your case.

The centerpiece was a customized Remington^® 870 shotgun. We improved the pump-action with a Magpul SGA^® Stock and an MOE^® M-LOK^® Forend. No matter how much you plan your setup, Mr. Tom Turkey shows up on his own terms, and you can easily find yourself shooting from an awkward position. Every little bit of enhanced ergonomics and control helps when you’re trying to bag that gobbler.

To escape the turkey’s keen eyesight, we had the 870 custom camoed by Capitol Armory in our home state of Texas. They applied Cerakote^® in a unique pattern called Vegetata to help us blend in with the natural environment.

We installed a Vortex^® Viper^® Shotgun Micro Red Dot to help us pinpoint a turkey’s head through the brush. We also screwed in a TruGlo^® Gobble Stopper™ choke tube for proper patterning at around 40 yards, then verified the shot pattern on a lifelike paper turkey target. A couple of mouth calls and a slate rounded out the case along with some turkey shotshells for that crucial moment.
