Magpul was built on innovation and challenging the status quo. In that spirit, we brought an innovative folding firearm to the 2008 SHOT Show, the full-auto 9mm FMG-9.

THE MAGPUL ZEV FDP 9MM: FROM 2008 PROTOTYPE TO PRODUCTION REALITY

What started as a thought experiment came to life as a one-off prototype. That single FMG-9 proved interesting, novel, fun to shoot, and turned heads at SHOT Show. As cool as it was, we never thought we would make the FMG-9 as a real product.

Almost two decades later, manufacturing capabilities changed and appetite grew for some modern version of the FMG-9. We found a way to bring that single prototype to full, manufacturing reality by partnering with ZEV Technologies. Based on the original FMG-9, the 9mm semiautomatic Folding Defensive Platform (FDP) debuted at SHOT Show 2025.

Made with a durable polymer chassis designed with Magpul aesthetics, the FDP folds up to about the size of an old-school lunchbox. Ergonomic and comfortable, it deploys with the press of a button, locks into firing position, and is ready to go anytime you are.  

You can safely carry it folded with a round in the chamber. It runs on GLOCK^® magazines and GL9 PMAGs. The carry handle contains integral sights and is red dot optics ready . If you want an LPVO you can quickly remove the carry handle to expose the full-length Picatinny rail for instant optics mounting. 

It’s reliable and accurate. We’ve filmed the FDP hitting steel targets out to 220 yards. Say what you want about lineage — the FDP kept the one spec that actually matters: it’s still stupid fun to shoot.
