Magpul 2015 Calendar Shoot

For the 2015 Magpul Calendar we once again opened up the armory to an incredible team from the fashion industry and six lovely ladies. This year, we decided to utilize black and white photography to continue pushing the outside of the envelope. The use of black and white photographs, taken with almost all natural light, has given the calendar a timeless, iconic feel that will be at home anywhere from an art gallery to a reloading bench.

These limited production motorcycles are designed at the Ronin Motor Works factory in Denver, Colorado, using the latest in engineering software and design techniques. The Ronin motorcycles are produced to strict tolerances, and yet each motorcycle is crafted with honest, time-tested manufacturing principles.

2014 Magpul Calendar Shoot

To be honest we weren’t too sure how it was going to turn out, but as the photo shoot progressed we started to realize that this calendar was something special.

96 Hour 180 Degree Hot Soak Test – PMAG GEN M3/USGI Test Video Installment #9

Our 9th test video is a Hot Weather Feedlip Drop test. We baked fully loaded USGI Tan Follower and PMAG GEN M3 magazines at 180 degrees Fahrenheit for 96 hours to test feedlip retention before dropping them five feet onto concrete. We then tested the dropped magazines in full auto live fire with an HK 416.

Dust Test – PMAG GEN M3/USGI Test Video Installment #8

To simulate live fire function after exposure to blowing dust, we loaded five each USGI Tan Follower and PMAG GEN M3 magazines, dusted them for two hours with TOP and MIL-STD specified dust, and then full auto live fire tested them in an HK 416.

Ballistic Puncture Test – PMAG GEN M3/USGI Test Video Installment #7

We shot empty USGI Tan Follower and PMAG 30 AR/M4 GEN M3 Magazines to show how both perform when punctured. We used a .300 AAC Blackout as the “puncturing” platform. We then loaded (to the degree possible) both magazines and full auto live fire tested them in an HK 416. To more realistically simulate a more likely occurrence, we should have shot through loaded magazines, but then, you’re obviously going to have stoppages from the damaged rounds. This demonstrates that the deformed metal from the puncture on the USGI both limits follower travel and catches on the spring, preventing reliable feeding. The clean hole through the pmag just provides a small window view of your cartridges feeding normally.

Cold Weather Feedlip Drop Test – PMAG GEN M3/USGI Test Video Installment #6

The sixth test video we are releasing is another feedlip drop test, but there is a catch: This time, the magazines have been chilled to -60 degrees Fahrenheit for two days. The loaded USGI Tan Follower and Magpul PMAG GEN M3 magazines are again being dropped from a height of five feet onto concrete, and then tested in full auto live fire with an HK 416. We were going to save this for last, but we have had a lot of interest in performance at -60, so here you go!

Full Weapon Drop Test – PMAG GEN M3/USGI Test Video Installment #5

The fifth release in our set of test videos is a “Full Weapon Drop Test.” This test replicates the weight of a full weapon (~8 lbs) dropped from a height of five feet onto a loaded magazine that is seated on a closed bolt. We perform the same drop on both a USGI tan follower magazine and a Magpul Gen M3 PMAG, and then live fire test both magazines.
