Magpul At Texas 3 Gun 2022

2022 was another great year for the Texas 3-Gun Championship. Set in early Spring and featuring 10 natural terrain stages in the beautiful Texas hill country at RPR near Burnet, TX, the stages were designed to be challenging to the most experienced and talented shooters in the country, but also be fun and interesting for newer shooters of various skill levels.

The match was a sell-out, with 260 people signed up on squads and another 70 on the waitlist. The match director Aaron Hayes always cooks up an interesting set of stages utilizing the unique topography of Reveille Peak Ranch to provide an experience that is unique on the 3 gun circuit. You won’t find any bay shooting here, just wide open stages at various distance and elevations. It’s a favorite event for the competitors and it’s easy to see why. Last year’s event was one for the ages, with torrential rain and high winds causing havoc on the scoresheets. This year’s weather was superb so the focus was squarely on the stages, and the scores reflected that. Shooters will reach out from 5 yards to 700 yards and wind is always a factor, so the event rewards the consistent, all-around shooter.

You shoot 4 stages with your squad and grab lunch, giving competitors an opportunity to tell share their experiences on the stages and trade stories. Multiple vendors are on site to take care of any equipment needs the shooters may have. This is a friendly event both on and off the stages and folks are quick to answer any question or share knowledge to those in need. It’s rare to see pro shooters mixing it up with the weekend warriors, but the focus is truly on the community and growing the sport as a whole.

The Range Officers really stand out at the event, and they are an incredibly diverse group with one thing in common: to get you through the stage safely and with a smile on your face. The ROs have their own match the day before the event kicks off; it’s casual, cool and fun to watch. These folks love to shoot, and it shows in the preparation and execution of the match, you won’t find a better experience.

Planning has already begun on the 2023 event. If you are interested, head over to https://www.tx3g.com/ to stay in the loop. We’ll see you out on the range.
